FAQ and Policies
We've had thousands of guests choose our boats for their outings, these are the topics that come up the most.
All Chicago Yachting boats and yachts may have 13 people plus the captain/crew. The capacity is based on the US Coast Guard regulations for a "bareboat" charter so there are no exceptions for additional guests.
People of all ages are considered passengers, i.e., babies and children count toward the capacity.
Due to these US Coast Guard regulated capacities, our boats are not permitted to be tied up to other boats.
The Captain fee is not included in what you have paid to Chicago Yachting to reserve the boat. You are renting a recreational vessel which means that you, as the renter, must hire and pay a Captain directly. This procedure is not unique to Chicago Yachting. All recreational boat rental companies in Chicago require that renters hire their captains directly since this is required by US Coast Guard laws.

All of our boats are located at 31st Street Harbor, Chicago, IL. Review our "Location Page" for more information about the harbor, parking and facilities. Prior to your rental date we will provide detailed arrival instructions.
Yes! You can bring your own food and drinks, including alcohol.
Recommendations:
- Finger foods tend to be easier for guests to manage.
- Avoid red wine and other items that are likely to stain the boat. Many of the surfaces are white.
- Choose cans over bottles when possible. This is for your own safety and the safety of our cleaning and dock staff. Beer bottles are very easily broken on the boat. Generally champagne and wine bottles are ok.
- Consume alcohol in a moderate and responsible manner. Most of the problems our charterers have had on the boat have been linked to excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol also increases the likelihood of sea-sickness.
Yes, inflatable rafts are available to add to your booking for $90. You can add a raft directly at checkout when reserving your boat rental.

Boating is an activity enjoyed in all kinds of weather. Cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, and rain showers are conditions considered safe for boating.
Weather reschedules or cancellations are not considered until the day of the boat rental, as forecasts can quickly change. Please do not reach out about weather concerns more than one day before your rental.
If you are unable to use the boat due to dangerous weather conditions or heavy sustained rain (actually happening at the time of rental, not based on forecast conditions), you can elect to either reschedule at no charge or receive a full refund, except the 7% Service & Transaction fee.
We recommend that you keep in touch with your hired captain regarding the weather. Do not assume your boat rental is cancelled until you receive written confirmation from Chicago Yachting.
If you are eligible for a weather-related reschedule, send an email to info@chicagoyachting.com to discuss reschedule options. Coordinate the rescheduled date with your captain. If your captain is unavailable, we can provide you with a new list of captains. Once the new date and time are confirmed, it can no longer be adjusted.
30 Days Before Reservation: Cancellations made 30 or more days before the scheduled rental date will receive a full refund, less a 7% Service & Transaction Fee. The 7% fee is calculated based on the total rental amount, not the deposit amount.
14 to 29 Days Before Reservation: Cancellations made between 14 and 29 days before the scheduled rental date will receive a 75% refund of the total reservation cost.
Less Than 14 Days Before Reservation: Cancellations made less than 14 days before the rental date are non-refundable, except in the case of dangerous weather conditions which are at the company's discretion.
In the case of rescheduling or cancellation, reimbursement of deposits or payments previously made to the captain is at the discretion of the captain. Chicago Yachting does not provide partial refunds for cases where the boat is returned to the harbor or dock before the end of the charter time.
